Interview a homeless person
1. What is the name of the person you selected? David Carter ,59.
2. What city, state or country are they located? Austin , texas.
3.Where do they sleep at night? the interview didn't ask for that. But it did say he moved around a lot from different states.
4.Are they alone, or do they have a family or friends with them? He is alone. His parents died, they disinherited from his drug habit. " I thought they were always gonna be there for me , live forever, and be there to bail me out" said David.
5.What is the reason they give for their situation? He had nice middle class family, but when he got into high school thats where the trouble began. He had OCD which caused him to have a mental break down his first year in college. So he dropped out. Came back 3 years later. He also had a problem with drinking , he was on drugs such as Heroin.
6. Do you believe this person could change their life if they wanted to? Yes, I believe everyone can change their life. Just because you go down the road doesn't mean you cant turn around. He stopped drinking because he said it makes him sick. He reads more and also reads the bible. He has been clean for 9 months sense this video was made.
7.What would it take for them to rejoin society and join the workforce? He would have to stay clean first off. He talked about getting a Pel grant or student lone to go back to school.
8. Do you have sympathy for this person? Why? Why not? To a certain extent I have sympathy. It donst take much for a person to go down the wrong path and get mixed up in the wrong things. Its not like he was a person with no smarts, he got a scholar ship for major in studio art. His disorder set him off.
9. Do you believe there is anything you could do personally to help this person? If I was to ever meet him I would try my best. But at the end of the day its them who have to make the choice to help them selves.
